2019 Weisser Riesling

VINEYARDS: A first for Remhoogte, the Weisser Riesling is produced from a 0,8 Ha vineyard on the ridge at the top of the estate. The soils are granitic and well drained.

CELLAR: The grapes are destemmed and very gently pressed. Fermentation is then allowed to proceed uninoculated in a stainless tank. The wine is then racked and bottled straight after fermentation.

TASTING NOTES: The nose shows an array of bright fruit such as granadilla, grapefruit, peaches and lemons. The wine has a smooth entry onto the palate with all the juicy fresh fruit coming through and freshened by a limey acidity which also brings length.

2018 Carbonic Syrah/Petit Syrah

VINEYARDS: The 2018 Free to be Red is an intriguing blend of Syrah made in a carbonic style and Petit Sirah. The Syrah grapes are from a North facing vineyard on the estate and the Petit Sirah from a small North West facing vineyard from a small vineyard off the estate and near the Eerste River.

CELLAR: Whole bunches are uncrushed. CO2 blanket maintained until the commencement of fermentation. Minimal mixing of the tank during fermentation to maintain the integrity of the berries, three weeks natural fermentation. Press juice added back to free run. Matured for 1 year in in stainless steel tank. Unoaked.

TASTING NOTES: A deep, ruby red colour with a nose of black berry, ripe plum, liquorish and fenel. The palate is of fresh ripe fruit up front. The tannin is chalky and mouth filling and leads to a gentle dryness that counters the fresh fruit and brings length.
